The Health Benefits of High Antioxidant Food

Published by Author at 2:41 am under Antioxidants

As most people around the world are already aware, antioxidants are a wonderful thing. Antioxidants are substances that are found in fruits and vegetables and which help guard the body against free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules that can damage healthy cells.

Antioxidants are able to protect human cells from oxidative damage and provide stronger immune resistance to flues, viruses and infections, greatly reduce incidence of all cancers, prevent glaucoma and macular degeneration, reduce risk of cholesterol-oxidation and heart disease, and slow the aging process of your skin and body.

Certain fruits and vegetables have more antioxidants than others, and so if you really want to reap the benefits of these wondrous antioxidants, you are going to want to make sure that you include the high antioxidant food in your diet.

Antioxidant Food List

Of all the high antioxidant food, there are a few types of food that are particularly high in antioxidants. One of the top foods on the antioxidant food list is dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is packed full of antioxidants and therefore is able to help lower blood pressure and reduce blood clots.

This is of course not to say that you should go out on a chocolate binge, because chocolate is also full of bad things, such as sugar and calories, but you should definitely start eating a few pieces every week or so, to get the power of the antioxidants it contains in your body.

Another type of high antioxidant food is fish. Just be careful when you start to add fish into your diet because it also contains selenium and selenium must be taken in measured amounts of because large doses of it can actually be toxic. Other than fish you can also find selenium – and antioxidants – in red meat, grains, eggs, sunflower seeds, chicken, garlic and brazil nuts.

You can talk to your doctor to get a more detailed list of the high antioxidant food that is included other than those discussed here. The most important thing is that you are getting interested in something that is going to be helping your health and making sure that you are in the most optimum condition.

Just make sure, as with the chocolate and fish, that any food you start incorporating in your diet you do with moderation. Just because a food may be a high antioxidant food, this doesn’t mean that you can’t overdo it, so introduce these foods gradually and make sure that you are only eating a serving size of each a day, or less, so that you do not end up doing yourself more harm than good.
